The mission of this website is to compile all the sites (including gravesites) related to the history of Edgar Allan Poe and Sarah Helen Whitman in Rhode Island. The figures listed here fit those criteria, with the exception of Edgar Allan Poe (for obvious reasons) and John Winslow Whitman, both of whom are not buried in Rhode Island. Whitman was the husband of Sarah Helen Whitman, so I have placed him in a submenu under her name. Considering that his grave was previously unphotographed and unpublished online before I travelled to Pembroke, Massachusettes to find him is significant enough for me to include him here. Each entry has a brief biography with explanation of how they are associated with Poe, Whitman, or both.
The majority of these graves are conveniently located in the North Burial Ground and Swan Point Cemetery. If you are planning to track down any of these people yourself, you can use the Google Map that I have created and embedded on the right-hand side of this site to pinpoint exactly where these graves are. As a dedicated taphophile, I understand how difficult grave hunting can be. Hopefully these resources make it easier for you!
